The purpose of the short course was to review latent variable methods for multivariate statistical models for continuous and discrete data as found in educational, psychological, social, behavioral, and health research. We reviewed recent work in areas such as exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling, and mixture modeling. We also discussed conceptual and computational issues and demonstrated how to apply the methods using R and R studio.
