
Broadening Participation Research Fellowship Program



Associate Director of Research
Dr. Neely brings over twenty years of educational experience to the HBCU STEM US Center. She will co-lead broadening participation research with STEM and Social Science doctoral and undergraduate fellows in the Broadening Participation Research Certificate Program. In this program, fellows will learn how to apply theoretical frameworks within social science to examine STEM undergraduate research experiences at HBCUs. Additionally, Fellows will (1) learn how to apply research methods and theories that center the unique perspectives of students in STEM, (2) establish collaborative research networks and practices to advance STEM education research, and (3) create and execute a cross-collaborative research agenda that advances broadening participation research.
Graduate Research Assistant
In addition to being a Research Associate at the Center, Ms. Maurya is a doctoral student at Georgia State University pursuing a degree in Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in Research, Measurement, and Statistics. Before working at the Center, she was a high school science teacher who taught physical science, physics, and biology. She was also a high school teacher in Ecuador as a Peace Corps Volunteer and started a STEM club for female students. She earned a BS in Chemistry, a BA in Spanish from Georgia State University and an MS in Education from Florida State University.
CONSULTANT & INAUGURAL HBCU STEM US CENTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dr. Lycurgus Muldrow received his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee and did postdoctoral training at Morehouse College. He is founding Executive Director of the HBCU STEM Undergraduate Success Research Center (STEM-US) at Morehouse College. During his tenure at Morehouse College, he has successfully authored and received 16 broadening participation implementation and research grants. Muldrow is peer-review published in education research and has authored three educational websites including the comprehensive Scientific Literacy Center. The Scientific Literacy Center contains an online Scientific Literacy course which is currently being scaled to other HBCUs. This course targets pre and early freshmen STEM majors and has a proven track record of increasing retention.
